If it’s new, it’s bound to be starring at the Furniture Show that takes place in Milan every Spring.

A logical approach might be to start with a look at the “Materials and Ideas for the future. 2001” and the “iMade” exhibitions.

Technogel, a polyurethane originally for medical use, attracted the attention of several designers. Philippe Starck used it for his Jelly Slice tables, Gaby Fois Dorell combined it with wood and aluminium on the Voyager seats. Another material used by several designers was Corian, a composite created by Du Pont in 1967 for which Ettore Sottsass has found some exciting new uses.

This year’s edition of the Milan Show also hosted Euroluce, a shop window for the lighting sector.

To round out the picture, the Fringe Show which remains the springboard par excellence for the promising young. And this year Milan celebrated forty years of design and fifty years of fashion with Made in Italy, an exhibition promoted by Cosmit.
