McLaren has unveiled the Solus GT, a car initially created as a virtual concept car for the GranTurismo video game and now produced in a limited run of 25. The Solus GT is an ultra-high-performance single-seater and boasts a weight of less than 1,000 kg and aerodynamic shapes that give it downforce of more than 1,200 kg. The hypercar is powered by an 840 hp 5.2-litre V10 engine in a mid-rear position and first deliveries are scheduled to start in 2023.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div design created by the Robert Melville-led team has remained true to its virtual layout and is based on proven aerodynamic principles following McLaren&#8217;s &#8216;Everything for a reason&#8217; styling philosophy, refined by the use of the latest aerodynamic research technologies such as CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). The list of distinctive exterior features is long, and the sliding sunroof over the single centre seat is one of the most striking features. To reduce air resistance, the wheels of the Solus GT are wrapped in shells, while a large front splitter channels air into a central tunnel.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div channelled into a diffuser and there is an air intake above the cockpit like in Formula 1, which is useful for channelling cold air towards the engine while producing an enthralling sound. The fixed two-piece rear wing is the key to achieving more downforce than the overall weight of the car. The ratio of downforce to drag has also been optimised, enhancing straight-line performance and improving cornering ability. The cockpit is as essential as a single-seater racing car requires. The star of the show is the steering wheel &#8211; whose design is unique among McLaren production cars &#8211; which is inspired by Formula 1, with an integrated dashboard display and essential controls.
