As of the end of 2022, Kevin Rice has stepped down as Pininfarina’s Chief Creative Officer. According to sources familiar with the matter, Pininfarina has no plans to replace its position at present. Since March 1st 2020, Rice, 59, had been Pininfarina’s creative and strategic guide on Mobility, Industrial & Experience Design, Architecture with direct responsibility for the Mobility Design Business Unit, now placed under the direction of the CEO and General Manager Silvio Angori. The operation of the design center will continue to be managed by Guglielmo Cartia, Vice President Global Design Operation.
Kevin Rice began his career in Turin at Italdesign after studying at the Royal College of Art in London and graduating in Industrial Design and Transports in 1986 from Coventry University. Rice subsequently worked for several European car brands including Opel, Saab and BMW. He also held the position of head of design at Mazda Europe, leaving at the end of August 2018 to become head of design at Chinese manufacturer Chery Automobile. Among his most famous designs are the BMW 1, 3 (2011) and 4 (2013) Series, and the Mazda MX-5, CX-3 and the RX Vision concept, and among the projects made for Pininfarina are the Foxtron Model B and Model E, the Namx hydrogen SUV and the electric moped Eysing PF40.
