Peugeot Design Lab has designed a universal solar energy charging station for electric vehicles for DRIVECO: the DRIVECO Parasol. The design of the Parasol combines ecology and technology. Its wooden frame supports the photovoltaic panels, providing protective shade for vehicles being charged. With this partnership, PEUGEOT is pursuing its commitment to zero-emission mobility from producer to consumer. The first smart solar road in the world will be inaugurated today at Ajaccio.
Peugeot Design Lab teams have implemented a project that develops the innovation and the environmental orientation of the DRIVECO Parasol. The wooden lattice structure accommodating the 150 m² of solar panels forms a canopy, while the flared bases of the Parasol smoothly integrate the charging points and electricity storage batteries. This project has harnessed the skills of designers, 3-D modellers and colour and materials experts.
The DRIVECO Parasol is a charging station comprising 88 photovoltaic panels and lithium ion batteries for generating and storing solar energy. The electricity can be redistributed round the clock even in periods of low sun intensity and shared in a network of several Parasols by means of a “smart grid” intelligent energy management system. Each Parasol is universal and can charge up to 7 vehicles – cars, scooters or bicycles – simultaneously 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. The charging time depends on the selected mode: quick or normal.
