It all began in Aix-en-Provence, a few years ago, in an entrepreneur’s silent revering for a Porsche that was slightly “outside the (mechanical) box”, with a V8 engine at the front and a gearbox at the rear. For many it was a masterpiece recalled by the eponymous three figures, for him, it was simply “the Transaxle”. Then, one day, after a quick glance at social media («I had recently opened my Instagram profile») he was struck by the Delta Futurista by Automobili Amos: «I was familiar with the phenomenon of updating historic cars, but this was a revelation. And so, having discovered the BorromeodeSilva studio, which had taken care of the aesthetics, a project slowly began to take shape in my mind», recounts that French enthusiast, Thierry Nardone, today.
The tangible manifestation of the intentions of that time is revealed in a sinuous champagne-coloured creature, modified in every surface thanks to carbon fibre, decidedly wider than the original 928: to accommodate mechanics suited to today’s daily use, of course, as well as to satisfy the desire for a more rounded tail, almost remodelled on the mould of a 911, without altering the original forms while making these much more plastic and, above all, streamlining the original declension of the elements
The lower portion of the headlamps on the front, for example, retains the initial line but becomes much cleaner and more graphic, while the main headlamps build their own message of essential contemporaneity on a trellis support. Finally, in the 18-inch rims inspired by the “Manholes” of yesteryear, there’s the triumphant echo of a technical and minimalist reinterpretation of historical stylistic features.
Inside, alongside the new Foglizzo leather and Alcantara upholstery, the layout of the dashboard re-emerges with great power, removed from any visual confusion and brought back to its constituent lines like in an advanced rendering (without sacrificing the Porsche Classic Management System infotainment device). And if the steering wheel appears to bring up the extreme visual cleanliness of a mock-up, albeit a perfectly functioning one, the digital instrumentation produces a ring «that represents our tribute to the analogue. In addition to the first example, we are thinking of building a small series of cars that can be fully customised by the customer, with deliveries planned from 2024 onwards», concludes Nardone. A breed of Porsche 928s, even further outside the box, is in the making.
