Lauren Murray, a 21-year-old student, won the first prize in a competition organised by the Centre for Advanced Low Carbon Propulsion Systems (C-ALPS) at Coventry University, UK, which aimed to create a mural that would provide the best representation of the issues of a zero-carbon future. The winning work depicts various renewable technologies and also looks to the future with the inclusion of flying vehicles and will be displayed inside the university’s laboratory.

“I wanted to create something green and vibrant and my initial design was inspired by a garden, so the cars resembled insects and one of the buildings a birdbath. After doing further research into the work of C-ALPS, I refined my design, trying to show the process of creating hydrogen fuel cells. An artist never sees their work as finished, but I am quite pleased with the end result,” said Lauren Murray. Tony Smith, Laboratory Manager of C-ALPS, said: “The standard of all the work was excellent, but Lauren’s mural will make a difference in the Laboratory, lighting up the space.
