BYD is getting ready for the Italian debut, which will start with the Atto 3, a 100% electric compact SUV that makes style one of its main strengths. The car is 4.46 meters and it bears the signature of Wolfgang Egger, design director of the Chinese brand, who for the first BYD designed for Europe has chosen soft and clean lines, precisely to meet the tastes of European customers as much as possible. The general appearance is refined, far from oriental stylistic canons: the front is dominated by the LED light clusters connected by a thin strip on which the brand logo is placed. A stylistic solution that finds continuity in the rear with the “coast to coast” effect lights.
But it is in the interiors that BYD’s designers have given greater freedom to their creativity. The dashboard seems to “move”: an effect achieved thanks to the various horizontally developed ribs that cross it and continue on to the door panels. The attention to style doesn’t stop there: the pockets in the doors are special, made with three red elastic bands that give the interior a colorful and personal touch. Or, again, the gear selection lever, which in shape resembles an airplane throttle.
There are also many technological contents, which are expressed in the presence of a large screen with a diagonal of over 15 inches positioned overhanging in the center of the dashboard. Through a special command it can assume a vertical or horizontal position. In general, therefore, style and contents are of a high level, so as to convey an impression very close to that which reigns on board many premium-range models.
The Atto 3 is powered by a 30.48 kWh battery, which sends power to a 204 HP engine positioned on the front axle and which ensures a range of 420 km. Driving dynamics are overall good: the engine response is always ready and the energy recovery system is never invasive, while the set-up is very devoted to comfort.
