Polestar has brought the winning design of the latest Polestar Design Contest to life with a 1:1 scale model, unveiled in Munich during the IAA 2023. At the same time, Polestar is kicking off a partnership with Mattel’s Hot Wheels brand, which will begin with Hot Wheels as the inspiration for the next Polestar Design Contest, drawing on the innovative and irreverent designs from the American brand’s 55-year history, and will expand with Polestar’s production vehicles that will be immortalised as Hot Wheels and Matchbox collectors’ items.
The fictional electric supercar ‘Polestar Synergy’ combines three winning designs that took top honours in the latest competition from over 600 entries. Entrants responded to the request to design a Polestar vehicle focused on the performance experience, providing an advanced technical story that would achieve this goal in a sustainable manner. After selecting ten designs, the jury chose two winners for the exterior and one for the interior – a first for the competition. The resulting Polestar Synergy is the product of more than six months of collaboration between the winners and the Polestar design team to turn three distinct dreams into a cohesive reality.
The final design of the fictional supercar is inspired by nature and emotional stability over time, with a floating single-seat interior design with control in the middle. Both winning exterior designers, Devashish Deshmukh and Swapnil Desai, are based in Paris, France. Deshmukh’s design focused on hollowed-out volumes inspired by a hammerhead shark, while Desai’s focused on emotional durability with the possibility of technical upgrades and materials that age gracefully over time. Interior designer, China’s Yingxiang Li, created a cabin with a performance-oriented seating position that offers a new experience focused on ‘comfort and motion control’.
