At a time when sustainability is becoming one of the cornerstones of automotive companies, car design is emerging as one of the essential levers to curb environmental impact. Because the first step in creating a more sustainable car is the drawing board. Renault’s aim in this quest, with its new design language developed under the leadership of Gilles Vidal, is to forge a new user experience. This new paradigm revolves around conserving resources and reducing the environmental impact of a vehicle during its life cycle.
Designing a car from a new point of view was a challenge that Gilles Vidal and his team began to tackle as soon as they started designing the French brand’s new models. The goal of creating a car that was as sustainable as it was beautiful stimulated their creativity and directed them towards some of their visual choices, not the other way around. Once the trends have been studied, the cars become modern objects adapted to meet them. A tangible example of this approach is the aerodynamics of the Scénic E-Tech Electric: it is more than a technical feature, it adds expression to the exterior design while reducing energy consumption and increasing the car’s range.
