The range of the new BMW 5 Series is completed with the arrival of the station wagon version, i.e. the Touring, as per tradition for the Bavarian company. At 5.06 meters long, it grows by 10 centimeters compared to the previous generation and confirms everything shown by the sedan, which was presented in the second half of 2023. From the three-box 5 Series the Touring takes up the contents, engine technology and even the styling, which changes at the rear to give space to the tailgate.
In the profile view, although the dimensions are generous, the car body is slender. This is thanks to a roof that tends to lower as it approaches the tail, the side glazing that tapers towards the D-pillar and the sloping rear window. The feeling is that you are in front of a spacious but not awkward car. After all, this is exactly what BMW has always tried to offer with the 5 Series: an ideal middle ground between the dynamism of the smaller 3 Series and the larger 7 Series.
At the rear, the BMW 5 Series Touring has clean lines. The horizontal headlights visually widen the silhouette and only the presence of black inserts or chrome moustaches in the lower part of the bumper (depending on the engine and trim) contrast with an appearance that would otherwise be very classic. Opening the tailgate, which is strictly electric, leads to a load compartment with a capacity of 570 litres which, by folding down the second row of seats, reaches 1,700 litres. The rear bench is divided into three parts (40:20:40) for maximum usability of the compartment and, once reclined, creates a step-free surface which, together with the flush loading threshold, allows even very bulky objects to be transported with relative ease.
Speaking of engines, the BMW 5 Series Touring is available in hybrid (petrol and diesel), plug-in hybrid and even 100% electric variants, with power outputs ranging from just under 200 hp to over 600 hp.
