It was 1998 and Audi was the first European premium manufacturer to enter the Chinese market. Times have now changed and the German manufacturer of the Volkswagen group has presented a new joint venture with Saic from which a specific brand for the Chinese market was born called AUDI, all caps and without the four-ring logo we all know. The E concept car is the first car of this new brand.
The AUDI E concept is a full electric sportback characterised by a length of 4.8 metres, a width of 1.99 metres and a height of 1.46 metres. The wheelbase stands at 2,950 mm. Aided by the new Advanced Digitized Platform, the spacious cabin combines elegance and maximum connectivity, while the four-wheel electric all-wheel drive is ensured by two electron motors, one at each axle, capable of delivering a total of 775 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque so as to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. The design, developed with Chinese customers’ tastes in mind, is deliberately minimalist.
The Sportback silhouette recalls the shooting-brakes of the past, while the interior, developed by the experts of the Beijing Design Studio, prioritises the combination of comfort and digital experience, so that the car evolves into a ‘connected oasis’, suited to the urban lifestyle of megacities. The console accommodates two smartphones, while the curved 4K touch display allows access to a myriad of information including the view provided by the digital exterior mirrors. The door panel finishes in backlit briarwood and microfibre recall design solutions typical of modern architecture.
