At the ‘Clearly Committed’ event held at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang, South Korea, the manufacturer unveiled a new hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) concept: Initium. A name, a Latin word meaning ‘beginning’ or ‘first’, which symbolises Hyundai’s pioneering role in hydrogen energy as well as the company’s commitment to developing a sustainable society based on this energy source. The lines of Initium anticipate those of a new production model with hydrogen powertrain that Hyundai intends to unveil in the first half of next year.
‘Our challenge began at the production stage, where we pushed the formability of steel to the extreme to create an artistic form. With INITIUM, we have created a solid and safe SUV design that reflects our dedication to customers through customer-centric development,’ said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design. Initium’s signature light graphics inspired by the ‘+’ symbol found in the logo of the hydrogen development division merge with the bumper to create a distinctive signature design for hydrogen vehicles, featuring unique lighting, solid volumes and refined elegance.
The aesthetics of the model, instantly recognisable as an SUV, integrate functionality for everyday life with the ability to take on outdoor adventures, thanks to its strong lines that balance robustness and refinement. The 21-inch rims complete the design, while the robust roof rack adds practicality for those with a passion for the outdoors.
