BMW Group presents the future of the driving and user experience at Ces in Las Vegas. The German manufacturer unveiled the production version of the new iDrive, the centrepiece of which is the Panoramic Vision. At the heart of it all is the new BMW Operating System X, which serves as the intelligent centre for the new visualisation and control concept. The system, which features a modern and distinctive design, will be integrated into all new BMW models from the end of 2025. ‘Technology and customer preferences are changing faster than ever before. The design of digital experiences and sound plays an increasingly important role,’ said Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. ‘The new BMW Panoramic iDrive not only makes our vehicles smarter and easier to use, it also allows for much greater customisation, turning every new BMW into a truly personal car.’

The new BMW iDrive combines four central elements in a unique visualisation and control concept: the Panoramic Vision – a completely new head-up display developed by BMW to project content – reflects the information visible from pillar to post on a black moulded surface on the underside of the windscreen. This information is visible to all passengers. The new, optional 3D Head-Up Display – positioned above the Panoramic Vision, now shows integrated navigation and automated driving information directly in the driver’s field of vision. The central display with matrix backlight technology – the updated menu structure with QuickSelect ensures optimal use of functions and content by touch. The new multi-function steering wheel – uses the ‘shy-tech’ approach, whereby the relevant buttons light up to highlight the available functions. The steering wheel acts as the main physical control and its buttons provide active tactile feedback.
