BMW presents the concept i4, a concept car that anticipates a production model coming next year and which, assures the Bavarian manufacturer, will have a design very similar to that of the prototype. “This concept car brings electrification to the heart of the brand,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “The design is dynamic, clean and elegant. In short: a perfect BMW that is also zero emissions.
According to the German premium brand, the battery pack that powers the electric motor guarantees a range of around 600 kilometres and a power output of up to 530 horsepower. “The design of the BMW Concept i4 shows fantastic proportions, a highly expressive character and, of course, a great deal of attention to detail,” adds Domagoj Dukec, Head of BMW Design. The long wheelbase, fastback roofline and short overhangs form an elegant profile.
The front grille has been replaced by a rather bulky vertical “double kidney”, a style we find in the latest BMW models. Sharp, soft lines and taut volumes blend into a rich sculpture with uniform contours and create a clear, superficial language. The colour chosen for this concept car is the “Frozen Light Copper”, the same colour as seen on the BMW Vision iNext.
The interior of the car is designed around the driver, who, while assisted by numerous driver assistance systems, remains at the heart of the project. For this reason, every element of the front of the passenger compartment faces the driver. The new BMW Curved Display joins the steering wheel to reveal a new interpretation of driver orientation and offers a preview of the display of the production versions of the BMW iNEXT suv and i4. The presentation surfaces of the display and those dedicated to the control functions merge into a single unit tilted towards the driver.
