Renault unveils its Morphoz concept car, illustrating its vision of future electric mobility. This modular vehicle offers a personalized adaptation to the needs, desires and uses of each person to push back all the automotive limits. Faithful to the brand’s DNA, the Morphoz concept embodies the Family petal of Renault’s ‘Life Flower’ design strategy, which is based around the stages within a person’s life. However, it is not merely an exploratory vision of mobility. In its design, details and interior presentation, it also heralds a new family of Renault electric models for the coming years.
The car is able to stretch and shorten according to the user’s needs. In the “City” version, the Morphoz has a length of 4.40 metres. Thanks to its 2.73 metre wheelbase, it can accommodate the standard 40 kWh batteries on the floor, while “remaining light” and avoiding unnecessary overloading. Inside, the interior is comparable to a higher-segment car. In this configuration, the concept has a specific luminous signature, with a strong look, underlined by additional LED segments. The style is also more pronounced, with a short bonnet, sculpted bumpers and the absence of overhangs that relegate the wheels to the four corners, to convey all the agility of a citycar equipped with an electric motor.
In the “Travel” version, the Morphoz extends a good 40 centimeters. The wheelbase increases proportionally, reaching 2.93 metres, so that the transformation gives more space for the occupants and the batteries inside the platform. This makes it possible to integrate additional 50 kWh batteries (for a total capacity of 90 kWh) and offer passengers more space for two extra pieces of luggage. At this point, Renault Morphoz is ready for long journeys, all the more so as the transformation allows it to optimise aerodynamics, thanks to a more streamlined profile and nose. The “Travel” version is distinguished by its specific front identity.
“Bold in its modularity, innovative in its design, human centric through its ability to facilitate sharing and exchange, the concept embodies the new “LivingTechTm” philosophy of Renault’s Design. Technology in all its forms – design, on-board intelligence, connectivity, interior layout – serves a new travel experience for all vehicle users. From the everyday to the weekend and holiday experience. The Morphoz concept is a truly living experience”, said Laurens van den Acker, Executive Vice President Corporate Design Groupe Renault.
The interior reflects the modularity of the exterior. The driver has a futuristic steering wheel with a 10.2-inch display in the centre showing the main driving and safety information. Behind the steering wheel, there is a wraparound dashboard, which seems to be without the traditional dashboard and without a multimedia screen. At the driver’s request, the dashboard opens and exits the large Livingscreen screen that wraps around the dashboard and displays driving information and multimedia system screens. The “Sharing” mode allows passengers – but not the driver, who is always looking towards the road – to find themselves sitting opposite each other for moments of confrontation and activity sharing.
