Mercedes-Benz has released the first sketch of the new S-Class whose official presentation will be on September 2. “I know you’re all anxious to see what’s new in our new S-Class. Here’s a first sketch showing the shape of the exterior, for all the final details you have to wait a few more days”, writes Gorden Wagener, Daimler Group design manager on his Instagram profile.
The first sketch shows the clear stylistic evolution of the new generation of the German flagship compared to the previous version. The lines that compose its forms have been reduced, the headlamps are cut more sharply and sporty, the parallel batten grille is more imposing and the headlamps start a line that crosses the side along its entire length. The handles are retractable.
The stylistic revolution has also involved the interiors, as we will tell you in the next issue of our magazine (Auto&Design no. 244). On the S Class, in fact, the new version of the Mbux multimedia system debuts, whose primary management is done by a large display that, unlike all the other models of the German premium manufacturer, is positioned vertically at the end of the center console.
A radical change of pace that follows a completely different approach than in the past and that could soon extend to the rest of the range. “This solution is the result of experience: we are all used to using vertically positioned screens every day, just think of our smartphones and tablets. The inspiration comes from that world,” says Gorden Wagener, head of design at Daimler Group.
