Preceded by a talk show dedicated to design themes, Wednesday evening saw the award ceremony for the 21st edition of the “Targa Rodolfo Bonetto”, a now historic prize that this year invited students from all over the world to submit innovative concepts. There were no design language restrictions.
The jury was chaired by Marco Bonetto and rewarded the social value of the LOOP watch designed for the visually challenged (by the students Giulio Fuzzi, Federico Marchetta, Daniele Gamba, Giuseppe Marchetti, from Milan Polytechnic). This in effect is a GPS that allows the user to navigate using smart technology, and dialogue with other devices. Second place went to the project-installation FORYOU designed to keep children occupied in waiting rooms, by Giulia Geremia of the same faculty; third prize went to the underwater drone VIRTUAL DRONE by Ludovica Schiavone, Sebastian Vocale, Sibilla Vannucci of ISIA, Pescara.
Winners received a really special prize: a Twizy minicar called RoBo (in honour of the award’s founder, the designer Rodolfo Bonetto). This was customised by the historic coachworks Castagna which gave a “digital” imprint to this electric two-seater, putting together fully forty components most of them 3D printed. Then plastic and wood inserts, as in the door moulding, produced by the printer; interiors were enlivened by Missoni Home fabrics and Alcantara, repeating the wood textures outside the cabin.
