Change at the top for the Istituto Europeo di Design of Turin. Riccardo Balbo, head of the Turin facility since November 2013, has been appointed Academic Director of IED Italia. He is succeeded at the top of IED Torino by Paola Zini, President-in-Office of the Consortium of Savoy Royal Residences and founder, in 2010, of Bold, the company that produces Operæ – the International Independent Design Fair. From 2006 to 2009 she also headed the organising committee of World Design Capital Turin under the aegis of the WDO (World Design Organization).

IED

2018 opens with another innovation in the field of transportation design: IED Torino is inaugurating the IED mobility lab, a laboratory of innovation and development in future mobility, led by designer Luca Borgogno. The school also confirms its presence, for the 15th consecutive year, at the Geneva Motor Show with a concept car created by the students of the Master’s Degree in Transportation Design in collaboration with the European Design Center Hyundai, of which we publish the very first teaser.

IED

“Training in creative contexts is an indispensable resource for the development of all economic sectors”, said new director Paola Zini. “Some, like industry and crafts, have historically linked their success to interaction with design, style and communication. Others, which seem more distant, such as the world of culture, tourism, services and cultural heritage, are looking for an engagement of this kind. This multiple diversification only goes to make the role of Director of IED Torino all the more fascinating and challenging”.
