Nissan presents the new electric coupé crossover Ariya, inaugurating the brand’s new stylistic era. The new platform for 100% electric vehicles has enabled designers to adopt a new styling approach with better use of components and more space on board. The design represents the first “touchpoint” of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility philosophy, called by the manufacturer “Timeless Japanese Futurism”, simple and modern at the same time, elegant and sensual. Incarnating the Japanese term “iki”, which characterizes Ariya’s sophisticated and avant-garde nature, the front of the vehicle appears fluid and continuous.
The front grille is small and hides the ProPilot’s obstacle detection sensors. The Nissan logo, with a unique design, is positioned in the centre of the grille and is clearly illuminated by 20 LEDs. The lower part of the grille is bordered by a thin edge that illuminates, together with the logo, when the car is switched on. The LED headlamps create a luminous signature that reinterprets the V-Motion stylistic principle. “Ariya’s exterior proportions demonstrate the potential of the new platform,” said Giovanny Arroba, Senior Design Director. “The very short overhangs, the aggressive roof line and the large wheels offer an elegant look that balances sportiness and luxury in an impeccable way”.
Ariya’s cabin has been designed to offer maximum efficiency and comfort. The interior is more like an elegant spaceship lounge than a traditional car. Ariya’s minimalist dashboard blends in with the shape of the cabin and the doors and is devoid of buttons and switches. The primary air conditioning control functions are integrated into the central part in the form of touch switches, which vibrate when touched and only appear when the car is turned on. Underneath the central part of the dashboard is an object compartment and a folding shelf. The innovative design of the foldaway table transforms the interior into a mobile office, creating a comfortable working space.
