Los Angeles-based electric vehicle startup Canoo is announcing the arrival of a multi-purpose electric pick-up truck in 2023, with orders starting later this year. “We passionately want to build vehicles that can change people’s lives,” says Tony Aquila, executive chairman of Canoo. “We’ve created accessories specifically for all the people who use these vehicles for work, weekends or adventure.” The pickup is Canoo’s third vehicle after the “Lifestyle Vehicle” and the “Multi Purpose Delivery Vehicle.”
Thanks to the modular platform for electric vehicles, which allows a long wheelbase and short overhangs, and the steer-by-wire system, the cab has been moved forward. The designers have included enlarged wheel arches and a host of accessories that improve the vehicle’s everyday usability. From the awning to the luggage compartment on the roof, from the charging socket system to the rear lighting, from the folding edges for easy access to the load compartment to the platform that can be pulled out of the cab for effortless access to the roof. The rear deck can be further extended if you need to transport long items.
The new pick-up is expected to have a twin engine capable of developing a total of around 600 horsepower and an estimated range of around 320 kilometres, although the manufacturers hope to increase this to 450 kilometres before the vehicle is finally launched on the market. The dimensions of the vehicle are: 4.6 metres long, 2 metres wide and 1.9 metres high. No images of the interior have yet been released.
