Audi is accelerating towards electrification. At the Shanghai Motor Show 2021, the German manufacturer presented the A6 e-tron, an electric saloon concept car based on the Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform. The prototype anticipates a production model arriving in 2022. The dimensions of the A6 e-tron immediately qualify it as a flagship: 4.96 metres long, 1.96 metres wide and 1.44 metres high.
With its dynamic and elegant proportions, including the brand’s typical fastback design, the vehicle follows lines dictated by aerodynamics. The car has achieved an air resistance coefficient value of 0.22 to the benefit of a range of up to 700 kilometres on a single charge. The large 22-inch wheels and short overhangs, flat cabin and wide coupe-like roof arch give the vehicle proportions that are distinctly reminiscent of a sports car.
As already seen on other models from the German manufacturer, the front of the A6 e-tron also features a large full grille that no longer serves to cool the mechanical part. The LED headlights are thinner and sharper while the e-tron logo is clearly visible at the base of the front bumper. One of the model’s special features is the type of paint used, which reflects a significant percentage of the sun’s rays, reducing the heat inside. In this way the occupants will use less air conditioning, one of the main factors impacting energy consumption in addition to the driving system.
The interior, of which at the moment we only see some drawings, evolves the typical Audi approach to a more rational level. The display in the centre of the dashboard is floating, as is the instrumentation display for the driver. The central tunnel contains a few controls for the main functions, while the driver and passengers are surrounded by a band of contrasting elements that offer protection and increase the feeling of comfort on board.
