Sophie Li has been appointed head of the design team at Volvo Asia Pacific. The Chinese designer succeeds Jonathan Disley, who has decided to take on new challenges outside the automotive industry. Sophie Li joined Volvo in April 2021 from Jaguar Land Rover, where she gained more than 10 years of automotive design experience.
During her time at Jaguar Land Rover, Li worked on many flagship products including the Defender and the interior of the new Range Rover. The Chinese designer was also responsible for setting up the Jaguar Land Rover Shanghai studio, the British carmaker’s first satellite studio. “I am very pleased to welcome Sophie to lead the Volvo Car Asia Pacific design team,” said Robin Page, head of design at Volvo Cars. “She brings valuable experience and knowledge of the markets in that region. I would also like to sincerely thank Jonathan for his leadership and contribution to projects during his time at Volvo.”
