Important news for Toyota at the Tokyo Auto Saloon 2022. The Japanese manufacturer’s racing department (Toyota Gazoo Racing) is committed to intensifying its customer-focused motorsport activities. Promoting the development of “driver first” cars and with the desire to provide cars for customers racing in the GT3 class, it presented the GR GT3 Concept. As with the GR Yaris, Toyota Gazoo Racing intends to use the experience and technology gathered through participation in racing to develop both GT3-class and production cars and to produce increasingly high performance racing cars.
Based on Toyota’s new 100% electric SUV, the bZ4X GR Sport Concept offers a high level of performance and driving pleasure. In addition to a dedicated powertrain, the car has a specific design with large diameter tyres, sports seats and matte black exterior body panels. The project aims to explore the world of sporty electric cars with customised bodywork and equipment.
The development of the GRMN Yaris began with the desire of Morizo – the racing codename of Akio Toyoda (Toyoda’s chairman) to deliver cars to customers that can be tailor-made for the driver, as happens in motorsport. The new GRMN Yaris will be built in just 500 units and will be available exclusively for the Japanese market. Weight has been reduced by around 20 kg, the overall width has been increased by 10 mm for aerodynamic improvement and the height of the car has been reduced by 10 mm to achieve a lower centre of gravity.
