Lexus announced that “Rewind” by Poh Yun Ru has won the Lexus Design Award 2022, focused on contributing to a better tomorrow through three core principles: anticipate, innovate and fascinate. Designed to evoke memories, “Rewind” uses a motion-sensing tool that guides seniors with dementia to recall familiar gestures. These actions are then reflected as audiovisual feedback on an associated device that activates the memory. Poh Yun Ru is a designer of socially useful products that seek to have a positive impact on society by improving the lives of others and sees design as a useful methodology for developing intuitive and inclusive solutions for people from all walks of life.
“I am immensely grateful that Rewind has taken a step toward improving people’s lives. This could not have happened without the support of my mentors, my team of engineers, programmers, health experts and dedicated users. The Lexus Design Award opportunity to turn a design into a real-world product is nothing short of amazing, and I am honored to have met and learned from so many passionate designers from around the world,” said Poh Yun Ru.
