Aston Martin chose Monterey Car Week to unveil the DBR22: a concept car that anticipates a small series of super-exclusive sports cars celebrating some of the British manufacturer’s track models such as the 1959 DBR1 and 1953 DB3S. The DBR22 concept showcases a completely new body designed by the pencils of Aston Martin designers led by Marek Reichman. Its exceptional shape is created by a minimal number of body panels to create a more sculpted and muscular presence. The result: a mix of drama and elegance.
Among the distinctive styling details is a front grille with an unprecedented design, made of carbon fibre and replacing the classic parallel slats found on the standard Aton Martin. This design takes direct inspiration from the DBR1 and DB3S, giving it a unique identity; one that clearly draws on Aston Martin’s heritage but uses this inspiration to create a truly contemporary design. On the bonnet is a horseshoe-shaped air intake, recessed to aid airflow to the 5.2-litre Twin-Turbo V12 engine. The long, uninterrupted bonnet line draws the eye into the cabin, passing over the air deflector and mirrors, mounted on the top of the doors on slender carbon fibre arms.
The cabin of the DBR22 blends classic and contemporary elements with many dedicated components, while materials make extensive use of both leather and exposed carbon fibre. While taking inspiration from Aston Martin’s most famous racing cars, the DBR22 is not a true racing car. Soft leathers envelop the dashboard, while the sports seats have a carbon shell. In the centre of the dashboard is a display for controlling the infotainment functions and further down two sliders dedicated to adjusting the air conditioning.
