A Mercedes G-Class that dresses Moncler. It is called Project Mondo G and fuses the historic shapes of one of the world’s most famous off-roaders with the distinctive style codes of Moncler, the famous Italian fashion house whose most recognisable product is the down jacket. The model, classified by Mercedes-Benz as a work of art, was unveiled at the Moncler ‘The Art of Genius’ fashion show during London Fashion Week. Unmistakable and inimitable, the two products have developed into luxury lifestyle items in recent decades. The fusion of opposites gives rise to a sculptural object: Project Mondo G invites you to experience the transformation of a formerly purely functional object into a designer one. Its dimensions are: 4.6 metres long, 2.8 metres high, 3.4 metres wide (with wheels) and 2.5 tonnes in weight.
“The collaboration with Moncler inspired us to create a truly iconic sculpture on wheels, a very bold design statement,” said Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Mercedes-Benz Group. “Based on our Sensual Purity design philosophy, this piece of art fuses extremely contrasting shapes and surfaces: shiny materials of spacecraft with a roaring glossy look, strong geometry of the G-Class with organic shapes of Moncler down jackets. Two strong luxury brands offer an extraordinary new experience by uniting the automotive and fashion worlds.
A closer look reveals further characteristic traits that have a concrete connection to the brand’s products and create new contrasts: the rough patina is the visible trace of use, hinting at functionality and practicality. This forms a visual contrast to the shiny reflective surfaces that symbolise the world of luxury. It is no coincidence that Project Mondo G has a huge zip, another deliberately flashy and showy element. The zip is a practical reference to the versatility of both products, car and jacket.
