Kia has released the first images of the EV9, the large electric SUV built on the E-Gmp platform that Auto&Design saw in an exclusive preview in Seoul, South Korea. The Kia Ev9 will be the subject of an in-depth design story in the May issue. Images of the production Kia EV9 show how close it is to the concept car of the same name created by the design team led by Karim Habib and unveiled in 2021.
EV9, from the very first glance, is characterised by a strongly distinctive road presence, a happy result of the combination of different elements, inspired by nature and modernity, skilfully inserted by the Kia team, according to the principles of the brand’s “Opposites United” philosophy. “EV9 represents a proposition where quality reaches the pinnacle and creates a new perspective in the SUV sector, providing unprecedented experiences and superior comfort not only for the driver, but also for all occupants, through innovative use of space, technology and design,” said Karim Habib, Executive Vice President and Head of Kia Global Design Center.
In front view, the EV9 is characterised by clean, simple lines and surfaces that instil confidence, rationality and serenity in equal measure. The futuristic and visionary look of the EV9 is emphasised by the ‘Digital Pattern Lighting Grille’ and the innovative design of the vertically developed headlamps, for a strongly futuristic evolution of the characteristic ‘Tiger Face’. The side view highlights a profile inspired by polygon shapes and expresses an unmistakable and decisive SUV identity with exceptional aerodynamic efficiency. The rear design is characterised by a play on references with the front, with the original and distinctive subtle light signatures that once again emphasise the strong and confident stature and ensure that strong, instantly recognisable SUV identity that projects into the future.
The ‘Technology for Life’ pillar of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy suggests that only technologies and innovations that promote positive and intuitive interactions between man and machine should be used to make new forms of mobility highly functional and concrete.- Passengers seated in the first and second row seats (depending on the relevant market) can simultaneously recline their backrests to relax and rest while the EV9 is charging. The second-row seats can be easily rotated 180 degrees to facilitate interaction with third-row passengers. The third row seats are equipped with cup holders and charging sockets for mobile devices. The EV9’s spacious and bright cabin is characterised by an elegant yet ergonomic and functional design, premium quality and an exceptionally user-friendly layout. The panoramic floating instrument panel extends from the steering wheel to the centre of the vehicle. Two 12.3-inch touch screens and a 5-inch segment display enhance the digital experience, offering easy control of vehicle functions and limiting physical buttons to the essentials.
