Volvo’s smallest crossover has arrived: it is called EX30, it is 100 per cent electric and continues the styling revolution started by the big seven-seater EX90. The car sums up all the Swedish manufacturer’s design principles in a smaller format. The long wheelbase, large wheels and even overhangs lend balance and elegance to the exterior. The exterior design was created in Gothenburg by the team led by Jeremy Offer and features a reassuring front end, a closed grille and a digital interpretation of the ‘Hammer of Thor’ headlamps, one of Volvo’s most important styling cues.
Five vibrant body colours give the car a certain personality. The colours are all dedicated to Sweden: from Cloud Blue to bright ed Moss Yellow, the latter inspired by the lichens that grow on the rocks along the Swedish west coast. The EX30 has been designed to have the lowest carbon footprint of any car the Gothenburg-based manufacturer has made so far and is therefore an important step towards Volvo’s ambitious sustainability plans.
The interior design follows typical Swedish minimalism. At the centre of the dashboard is the infotainment display (based on Google), while the instrumentation is on a small screen in front of the driver. The EX30 offers a choice of five different interior lighting themes. Each is inspired by a different Scandinavian landscape and gradually changes colour, generating a sense of calm inside the cabin. Whether you prefer the warm sunlight filtering through the leaves of a Scandinavian forest, a sunset on the Swedish west coast, the famous Northern Lights, the golden Swedish summer sky or the lively atmosphere of an urban sunset, the EX30 will change colours following the inspiration from these landscapes. Starting next year, our EX30 will also be available in a Cross Country variant. The car will have a dedicated design and will be equipped with a number of customised features, such as a higher ground clearance, black 19-inch wheels and the option of 18-inch wheels with customised tyres.
