Zeekr, a brand from the Geely galaxy, is ready to debut on the European market (starting with Sweden and the Netherlands) with the Zeekr X, an electric crossover with original lines whose first deliveries will begin in the autumn. Created for adventures in the city and beyond, Zeekr X has a pure design with good execution, while the interior enjoys ample space despite its compact exterior dimensions. The top-of-the-range version is powered by two motors for a combined output of 315 kW (428 hp), powered by a 69 kWh battery pack.
The car uses the SEA platform, the one dedicated to compact cars of the Geely group, which is modular, scalable and designed to be exclusively electric. Hence the reason for the long wheelbase that accompanies short overhangs, while suspension, steering and other components are specifically dedicated to the model. To ensure that Zeekr X meets the requirements of European customers in terms of driving dynamics, the tuning was done by a specialised team of engineers at Zeekr’s research and development centre in Gothenburg, Sweden, where the manufacturer’s European style centre is also located.
The northern European markets also see the launch of the Zeekr 001, a sports saloon with dynamic and curvaceous lines. Stefan Sielaff, head of design at the Geely Group: ‘At the moment, the design language for the first Zeekr models is still borrowed from Lynk & Co, but it will eventually evolve into something specific to this brand. The Zeekr design team here in Sweden is currently working on developing a luxury design language for the brand, reserved for one of the highest segments of the market. I think there are currently two megatrends in the field of car design for electric vehicles. One direction is extremely sci-fi, with a strong and robust language. The other is extremely clean and reduced, especially in the higher segments. From my 35 years of experience in car design, I have learnt this rule: it is easy to overload and complicate something by simply putting everything you have, but to make a simple selection, you have to make a lot of difficult decisions and know what has to be removed.
