The fourth episode of the series “Beyond: a Lamborghini podcast” features Mitja Borkert, Head of Design at Lamborghini, and Simon Halfon, a designer and film producer who has worked with artists such as George Michael and Paul Weller and on productions such as the Oasis documentary “Supersonic” and the film “Sleuth – The Unsuspected” directed by Kenneth Branagh. “Music for the eyes”, for the first time a video episode, remains true to the philosophy of the series: bringing together people who work at Lamborghini with people who are not in the automotive industry to explore their common traits. In the case of Mitja and Simon, music is far more important than for most people, helping to define the direction of their lives and creative careers.
For Mitja Borkert, who grew up in East Germany in the 1980s, access to music and pop culture and the automotive world in general was a challenge, but a source of inspiration: he discovered a love for drawing and design and even tried his hand at reproducing record covers while listening to music played on American and West Berlin radio stations, including tracks by the cult band Depeche Mode, which allowed him to travel with his imagination.
