There are many new features at the Car Design Awards 2024. The recently concluded edition also saw new trophies, the exclusive design of which was created by ERRE Company, a company operating in the field of engineering consultancy applied to the automotive, railway and industrial sectors.
Saddled by hand with Alcantara inserts, the designers decided to call it Traccia: “We tried to recreate the trace that every award-winning car leaves in others, imagining a curvilinear, which is by definition what we have always used to leave the trace of our ideas on paper,” explained Hernan Charalambopoulos, head of design at ERRE Company. The curvilinear has always been a working tool for designers in the analogue era. Distorting and breaking it down expresses a sense of immediate three-dimensionality, in tune with the needs of contemporary design.
Moreover, proposing an award with a deliberately horizontal architecture was for the company an emblem of a way of working that enhances the concept of team, horizontal and transversal in terms of skills and communication. Each award category – Production, Concept Car and Brand Design Language – corresponds to a different Alcantara colour: “We chose three colours that are harmonious with each other, yet very distinctive, to interpret the particular character of each winner,” concludes Charalambopoulos.
