With new MG3 Hybrid+, MG brand is attacking a traditionally “mass” segment, that of small cars, where maintaining the balance between cutting-edge contents and accessible costs is today always harder. The model responds to this mission profile starting from the aesthetics, which challenges the refined sophistication, even stylistic, of the main rivals (in particular the Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio, the most successful hybrids in the category) with a modern but simple and balanced appearance.
The compact shapes are in fact those of a classic five-door hatchback, but dimensions are a little more generous than average, with 4.11 meters in length and almost 1.80 meters in width. However, to embellish them there are interesting plays of lines that enliven both the front and the sides, giving the car a tone a bit sporty and very dynamic. In this it draws inspiration from more recent models such as the electric MG4, for elements such as the solid rib of the bonnet and the design of the headlights, adding however a bolder grille, enclosed within two large air intakes which almost form a second frame. Seven colors are available: York White, St Moritz Blue, Flaming Red, Morning Yellow, Pearl Black, Blade Silver and Hampstead Gray.
Inside, the style is less characteristic, but the search for formal simplicity emerges more clearly, resulting in high tech minimalism: the instruments are all digital, one 7″ for the driver and one 10.25″ for the other on-board functions. Not all of them, because some of the basic ones, for practicality, are still controlled by the “piano” button panel immediately under the display like audio volume, window defrost, etc. The graphics have also been defined to be as easy to use as possible, and focus on large symbols and figures and simple design also for navigation.
The MG3 is a full hybrid, a hybrid without external charging, but with a larger than average battery (1.83 kWh) that powers a 136 HP electric motor connected to the 1.5 petrol engine via a transmission with only three gears. In addition to a system power approaching 200 HP, it aims to offer more pleasant and “economical” driving in the city thanks to greater use of the electrical part, and a competitive entry price of 19,900 euros. There is also a specific app for smartphones that allows you to monitor its status, track its position and remotely control some functions such as locking the locks.
