With the official launch, which follows the presentation of the Omoda and Jaecoo brands last July, the compact SUV Omoda 5 finally debute on the market. Compared to the pre-series models shown to the press in the first half of the year, the model has received various implementations and improvements. The exterior line has not been affected, confirming the characteristic like the large grille with metal inserts and the LED lights, but some details have changed in the rear, such as the spoiler above the larger rear window and the addition of an aerodynamic profile at the rear. On the Premium trim, rear lights with dynamic lighting and a “swipe” effect for the direction indicator are standard, plus front fog lights. The rims are new, wider and with an updated design.
The biggest changes, however, come in the passenger compartment: remain, also updated, the two large digital displays for the instrumentation and infotainment integrated into an horizontal panel remain, Omoda 5 comes with a redesigned tunnel deprived of the gear shift controls, which pass on the lever to the right of the steering wheel who has also been redesigned and hosts new touch controls on the two upper spokes while the chrome rollers of the pre-launch version have disappeared. The dashboard now has a more prominent edge covered in eco-leather that replaces the previous solution with a glossy surface. The sensor of the driver attention monitoring system has also changed, which reads the position of the eyes, one of the items in the substantial list of ADAS present on board. These have also been revised, together with the tuning of the gearbox, and offering improved driving comfort. On the other hand, some of the warnings that appear on the central display still show translations in Italian that could be improved.
Returning to the tunnel, the wireless charger for smartphones and devices is now single and transversal, while in the center there are new storage compartments with cover. Also in this case, the “glossy” surfaces have been replaced by soft coverings. All this is standard for both versions proposed, Comfort and Premium. The second one also features a sunroof, a dual-zone climate control (mono on Comfort level), 8-speaker audio system, multicolor ambient lighting also extended to the rear area and a heated steering wheel.
