An AC Shelby Cobra 427 from 1966 is the winner of this year’s Auto&Design Trophy, a recognition dedicated to the car with the most iconic design at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2017. The award was handed over by Silvia Baruffaldi, Editor of Auto & Design, to Brendan M. Finn, the owner of the car, in the magnificent setting of Lake Como, during the car parade for the 2017 edition of the Concorso.

The Jury conferred the award for “Best of Show” on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS Prototipo from 1957. The unique special was penned by the chief stylist of the great coachbuilder Bertone at the time, Franco Scaglione. The car was presented on the shores of Lake Como by Corrado Lopresto. The public audience already selected the winner of the Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este on Saturday. This award went to the Lurani Nibbio, a single-seater built in 1935 and then driven to break numerous speed records.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta SS Prototipo

The motto of this year’s classic weekend is “Around the World in 80 Days –Voyage through an Era of Records”. It refers to the end of the 19th century when the world was becoming increasingly mobile.

The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is the world’s most exclusive heritage event for historic automobiles and motorcycles. The event has a long tradition extending back to the year 1929, when the first exhibition entitled “Coppa d’Oro Villa d’Este” was held in Cernobbio, Northern Italy, as a showcase for new launches in the automobile sector.
