“Sporty, dynamic, bold and entertaining”. This is how Andreas Nilsson, head of design for the Geely group brand, described the Lynk & Co 02 at its world launch in the Netherlands. The 02 slots into the Chinese brand’s range between the Suv 01, on sale since last year, and the Sedan 03, coming soon, and offers crossover architecture with a gritty front, following the styling of its older sister, a sloping roof line and a rear in which the square lighting units that extend to the C-pillar stand out.
“The 02 is positioned right in the middle of our brand’s range”, continued Nilsson. Its small size compared to the 01 and sculpted surfaces together with the more muscular profiles and wheel arches give it a greater road presence and fresh design that flirts with a dynamic, young clientele.
One of the intentions of the designers at Lynk & Co was to make the car highly customisable through the use of colours. The rear bumper incorporates a coloured strip between the two exhaust terminals, matching some of the details of the wheels and the front bumper. The interiors follow the stylistic layout of the 01. In the centre of the dashboard a large display is dedicated to infotainment control facing the driver, while above are two rectangular air vents. The steering wheel, digital cockpit and gear lever design are similar to those on the latest Volvos.
The 02 uses the same modular CMA platform as the Volvo XC40, and will be built for Europe in Belgium at the Ghent plant. The customer can see the car by going to the Lynk & Co “Popup Store” and it can also be bought online with home delivery.
