CONNECTIVITY AND MULTIMEDIA SYSTEM
Today, the multimedia system is, apart from driving, the main tool for interacting with the vehicle. That of the Volkswagen ID.3, the first electric vehicle from the German manufacturer produced on the MEB platform, is entirely new. Farewell to physical buttons – almost all the functions can be managed from the 10-inch display positioned at the centre of the dashboard, while the main information for driving is conveyed by the screen opposite the driver.
“We are increasingly becoming a digital brand and we are implementing the system to be able to control different vehicle functions directly from the smartphone for the user’s maximum convenience”, according to Klaus Zyciora Bischoff, head of design for the Volkswagen group. “The ID.3 was conceived to always be connected and to update itself online. This doesn’t just increase the functions, but it also allows us to change the design of the multimedia system every time we wish, exactly like with our smartphones”.
The ID.3 infotainment system is refreshed at every update, and this has provided the designers with several new cues: “We will face designing graphics that are always different and have designed the dashboard with a contemporary layout that challenges time”, Klaus Zyciora Bischoff continues. The new Head Up Display, with augmented reality function, will also debut on the ID.3: “Thanks to this device, it will be possible to arrange all the information in 3D, without needing to take your eyes off the road, following the principle of form-function that has always inspired our projects”.
