Ford introduces the Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition, a limited edition of its most exclusive model that was inspired by the prototype that debuted at the New York Auto Show in 1964 and later became America’s iconic Le Mans-winning supercar. “This is the first Ford GT Heritage Edition that goes beyond celebrating race victories by honoring Ford’s oldest supercar heritage,” said Mike Severson, Ford GT program manager. “The Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition is a modern take on the original.”
The designers reserved a special outfit for this limited edition. The car is painted in Wimbledon White with Antimatter Blue graphics and we also find a contrasting stripe on the roof and tail. The exposed carbon fiber components are prominent and include 20-inch blue painted carbon wheels, front splitter, side skirts, mirrors, engine louvers and rear diffuser. The Brembo brake calipers have been colored silver with some black interior graphics.
Carbon fiber is also present in the cabin and covers the door sills, pillars and console. For the seat upholstery, also made of carbon fiber, Ford’s dedicated Color&Trim department chose blue Alcantara with contrasting silver stitching, while detail finishes such as the GT logo imprinted on the headrests enrich the cabin. “There are many important moments in the history of the Ford GT that we celebrated, but the team was unanimous in its belief that the original prototype was the right vehicle this time around,” Severson said. “That 1964 prototype unleashed the creative genius of the Ford Advanced Vehicles team and paved the way for the Ford GT program.”
