Hyundai has unveiled Mobile Eccentric Droid (MobED), a small mobility platform that uses cutting-edge robotic technologies. MobED has an innovative design. Its flat, rectangular body rides on four large wheels, with an independent suspension that allows for optimal body posture and stable movement even on inclined and uneven roads. This suspension allows the platform to move through complex urban environments by freely adjusting its pitch and steering angles.
Featuring innovative technologies, including an advanced ‘Eccentric Wheel’ drive train and high-tech steering, braking and altitude control systems, MobED adapts and ensures optimal posture on various road surfaces and in different environments. The three motors mounted on each wheel provide power and steering precision to the wheels while also controlling overall body posture.
MobED measures 67 cm in length, 60 cm in width, 33 cm in height and weighs 50 kg. Its wheelbase expands to 65 cm for optimal stability in high-speed driving and then drops to 45 cm for low-speed manoeuvring in more complex environments. Its top speed is 30 km/h and it allows around four hours of driving on a single charge with a battery capacity of 2 kWh. Hyundai will be exhibiting at CES 2022, scheduled for 5-8 January 2022, where it will present its vision of future robotics. MobED will be on display at the Hyundai stand.
