Hyundai Motor Group announced the appointment of Peter Schreyer, President and Head of Design Management, as Executive Design Advisor and brand ambassador for the company. This new role will allow the visionary designer to expand on his monumental 16-year history with the Group, of which he has been a part since 2006.
Born in 1953 in Bad Reichenhall, Germany, Schreyer showed an interest in art from an early age. He received his professional training at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich and the renowned Royal College of Art in London, which awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2007. Prior to joining Kia, he was responsible for the design of pioneering models such as the Audi TT, VW New Beetle and VW Golf IV at Audi and the Volkswagen Group, where he held various positions for more than 25 years.
Schreyer became President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group in 2013, his approach to design has helped transform Hyundai and Kia into attractive brands. The development of his inspirational philosophy shaped their transformation and, in addition, led to the development of Genesis as the Group’s luxury brand. For each brand, he developed a unique design philosophy and identity. One of the most significant elements was Kia’s globally recognized Tiger Nose badge. Some of Schreyer’s most notable design achievements at the Group include Kia Optima, Soul and Stinger and Hyundai’s range of SUVs from Kona to Santa Fe, along with the hydrogen-powered Nexo. He also developed Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille.
