Aygo X is the production version of the Aygo X Prologue concept car designed by Sophia Antipolis’ TEDD (Toyota Europe Design Development) design center led by Ian Cartabiano and featured in our Auto&Design no.247 cover story. “Everyone deserves to own a car with a distinctive design. When I look at Aygo X Prologue, I’m really proud to say that the ED² team succeeded perfectly. I’m excited to see it revolutionize the segment,” says Ian Cartabiano.
Thanks to the adoption of the GA-B platform and its crossover packaging, the Aygo X is a raised A-segment city car. The platform features a modified and downsized rear frame section, while the body features reduced front and rear overhangs. At 3,700 mm long, the new Aygo X is 235 mm longer than its predecessor, with the wheelbase increasing by 90 mm. The front overhang is 72 mm less than the Yaris, while the maximum wheel size has increased to 18 inches.
The Aygo X’s bi-tone color, combined with paints that find inspiration in the world of spices, create a determined silhouette and give some movement to the volumes of the small car. The new, more tapered roofline also increases the feeling of dynamism for a sportier image. At the front, the high-tech headlights wrap around the hood to form a wing-like profile, while further down, the large grille, fog lamps and under-run are developed on the double trapezoid theme. Spices also inspired the entire color scheme: Cardamom Green, Chilli Red, Ginger Beige, Juniper Blue.
The spice theme, however, is not just on the outside. In fact, interior details – including the dashboard and center console – match the exterior colors to give the cabin a distinctive and unique design. A closer look at the seats will point out the “X” symbol stitched directly onto the fabric. For the connectivity part, the Aygo X will be equipped with the Toyota Smart Connect whose functions can be managed from the 9-inch high definition display positioned in the center of the dashboard. The system also offers cloud-based navigation to provide real-time route information via always-on services and have Over The Air update.
