Atelier Bentley Home in Milan welcomes two new collections, unveiled during Milan Design Week in conjunction with the Salone del Mobile. Solstice, Bentley Home’s first outdoor furniture collection, celebrates the outdoors, while the 2022 collection of interior furniture offers a blend of luxurious materials, architectural forms and futuristic compositions. Both collections reflect the close collaboration between the Bentley Motors and Bentley Home design teams, utilising materials, patterns and shapes found in Bentley cars and translated into exclusive home furnishings.
The creation of Solstice has been a complex and fascinating journey. Carlo Colombo, Bentley Home designer, worked closely with Bentley Motors’ designers to incorporate the stylistic DNA of the British brand into furniture that would look elegant outdoors and in natural light. Velvet, chenille and satin were treated specifically for outdoor use, following research into each of these materials. Marm\More® fabric made from waste marble powder can be chosen by those looking for a sustainable fabric option. In addition, there is the new Colwyn hemp cover, in three colours – Cool Grey, Laguna and Desert. Hemp is one of the oldest botanical fibres, with origins dating back 6,000 years.
A key design feature of the collection is the ‘supermirror’ steel detailing inspired by the front matrix grille on Bentley’s range of cars, including the Continental, Bentayga and Flying Spur ranges. The term ‘supermirror’ refers to the high level of polish applied to the stainless steel, an effect achieved by the skills of Bentley Home’s craftsmen. Wrapping the Solstice Sofa, Armchair and Ottoman, each individual slat of supermirror has been curved to follow the profile of the backrests, using an innovative cutting system. The steel grid detail in super-mirror has a delicate lightness consistent with the upholstered leather and fabric elements of the furniture.
