GAC, a Chinese car manufacturer, presented its latest project created by the GAC style centre in Milan: the Car Culture #2 Van Life. The idea was to create a vehicle that allows people to travel long distances and go wherever they want. Van Life is a compact, streamlined van with efficient electrification technology. Its boxy silhouette is optimised for long journeys and to provide living space, making it an alternative to aeroplanes. “We believe that cars are not only objects that move people from A to B, but also machines that create beautiful memories,” said Stéphane Janin, director of GAC Advanced Design Milan.
The van is equipped with a new generation solid-state battery, which is safer, more efficient, longer lasting and more environmentally friendly than conventional lithium-ion batteries. Most of the van’s components are made from recycled waste materials, such as plastic, aluminium and carbon fibre, making it lightweight and efficient. The interior design consists of a structure that surrounds the interior and allows various items to be easily attached and detached. From basic items such as bags and smartphones to customised items such as trays and a hammock, everything can be easily attached. The cabin is versatile and allows for sleeping on long journeys.
On the side profile, benches can be folded down and slid out to allow passengers to share outdoor moments and enjoy the surrounding landscape with family and friends. In addition, the car is equipped with universal magsafe technology that allows passengers to charge their smartphones. The Orbital Frame is equipped with modular equipment that can be installed at the front of the structure, where it is exposed to sunlight. This natural energy can be converted into electricity or used to heat water, making the car even more environmentally friendly. The specific tread of the tyres allows good traction on all kinds of terrain, such as mud, sand and rocky surfaces. The navigation system takes care of the driving, which is autonomous even in remote places with no roads, by using the position of the stars in the sky to find the road in the event of no network.
