Ten years after its birth, the compact 4C supercar returns to make fans dream. Characterized by a bold and aerodynamic design, inspired by the icons of Alfa Romeo’s past, the 4C is a “2-seater dry” sports car, with rear-wheel drive and a centrally positioned engine, which was produced until 2020, both in coupé and spider versions. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of this sporty coupé, the Stellantis Heritage department (Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia and Abarth) has conceived and developed the “Alfa Romeo 4C Designer’s Cut” project, which will create a unique model customised by Alessandro Maccolini, Alfa Romeo Design Project Manager. The special celebratory version will be available for sale as an authentic collector’s item.
“To create this one-off based on 4C I identified three aesthetic characterizations from which to take inspiration – explains Maccolini -. I already have an idea of what I would like to develop, but I would also like to draw from fans of the brand. Over the years I have experienced first-hand the world of Alfa Romeo clubs and I have seen many versions of 4C, of all colors, with different types of paint and configurations even with fairly deep tuning. Here I would like to involve them in this project in order to celebrate together the 10 years of the 4C with a very special one-off”. In particular, the first strand called “4C Tributo” is the historical one that plays on the color red, the color that most of all identifies Alfa Romeo cars, embodying a particular meaning of Premium sportiness typical of the brand, a real archetype that has entered the collective imagination.
Instead, the second setting explored is the “racing” one, hence the name “4C Corsa”, well expressed by the matt gray liveries that highlight the muscular shapes of the car and, at the same time, emphasize the technical peculiarities devoted to performance. Finally, “4C leggenda” is the third and final strand, Alfa Romeo’s most intimate because it combines sportiness with the history of the Biscione, as demonstrated by the pastel colors of the past, including a sophisticated blue combined with technical white rims. With the Alfa Romeo 4C Designer’s Cut, the path begun last year with the Abarth Classiche 1000 SP continues, featuring the team led by Roberto Giolito, Heritage Stellantis (Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, Abarth), in the creation of one-offs or few-offs based on discontinued cars. The activity is part of Heritage’s “Reloaded by Creators” program, launched in 2018, which involves the sale of a limited number of classic cars of the Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, Abarth brands: historic models, with certified authenticity and restored to their original beauty directly by the parent company.
The history of the Alfa Romeo 4C begins with the concept car presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 2011, which was a great success and generated strong interest among sports car enthusiasts. Following the enthusiastic response, in 2013 Alfa Romeo decided to start production of this coupé that embodies the essence of the brand’s sportiness: performance, Italian style and technical excellence aimed at maximum driving pleasure in complete safety. Designed by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, the 4C supercar immediately recalls some iconic models of tradition that have left an important mark on the brand’s history. One above all, in terms of size and layout similarities, is certainly the 33 Stradale, a car that combined extreme mechanical and functional requirements with an essential style that adequately “dressed” the engine and chassis with unmistakably Alfa Romeo treatments.
