The presentation to the public will take place on September 5 at the IAA Munich Motor Show, but Volkswagen has already released images and information on the new Passat, now in its ninth generation. The design, curated by Andreas Mindt’s team, aims at the purity of the volumes based on the MQB Evo platform. Compared to the previous version, the surfaces are more sculptural, the lines more dynamic and the dimensions are larger. The new Passat has a longer wheelbase of 50 mm (2,841 mm), while the overall length is 4,917 mm.
The designers worked on the shapes of the new Passat, updating them compared to the previous generation. If the bonnet in the previous version was higher in the center than on the sides, the new one is now lower in the center and rises outwards with sharp lines. The new LED headlights, with their two modules, give a more sculptural appearance together with the LED daytime running lights. Like the front and sidewall, the rear of the new Passat also features a clean and rational design. The headlights have a continuous line of LEDs that crosses the rear in all its width to emphasize the power of the bodywork. At the top of the boot lid, the roof spoiler and the side air guidance elements on the D-pillars stand out.
The interiors have been completely redesigned taking inspiration from the ID family. At the center of the dashboard stands the large display which, depending on the version, can reach a width of up to 15 inches, while another screen in front of the driver shows the digital instrumentation. The centre console offers more space for stowage as, as on the ID.7 and ID.Buzz models, the gear selector is now located on the steering column.
