With its latest concept, the Bmw Vision Neue Klasse, the German premium manufacturer shows what the next generation of its electric models will look like. The concept car takes advantage of BMW’s new zero-emission car platform, dressed in a clear, elegant, timeless new design. The new architecture has also opened up new possibilities for the interior. “The design of the Neue Klasse is typically BMW but so progressive that it feels like we have skipped a generation of models,” explains Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of Design at BMW Group. The mighty wheel arches, the set-back glazed area and the ‘shark snout’ front end tilted sharply forward are all characteristic of the brand. The aerodynamic 21-inch wheels pay homage to the classic motorsport-inspired cross-spoke design.
A new interpretation of the brand’s characteristic design elements, such as the double kidney grille and twin headlights, transforms the front of the vehicle into a single area of interaction. Technology also defines the design of the rear headlights, with 3D-printed light elements that extend over several levels and are controlled in a targeted manner to create an impression of depth. The ‘Joyous bright’ luminous paint, with its subtle shade of yellow, underlines the futuristic personality of the model, which will arrive as standard in 2025. Contrast is provided by the black side skirts and bumpers. With a higher percentage of secondary raw materials and a significantly reduced variety of materials, targeted improvements have been made to increase the sustainability of the product.
The interior is a minimalist revolution. Analogue controls have been reduced to a minimum and human-car interaction is via the Bmw Panoramic Vision, Central Display and multifunction buttons on the steering wheel. Luminous rope fabrics create a comfortable atmosphere, while the clear dashboard supports the steering wheel, which is flattened at the top and bottom, and the central display with backlighting. The centre console houses a smartphone charging cradle and glass gearstick lever. The front seats are attached to the floor by a single bracket, freeing up additional legroom in the rear compartment, where passengers can enjoy the spaciousness created by having two individual seats. The interior design, completely free of decorative chrome or leather, helps optimise the vehicle’s environmental impact during its production process.
