Ten years after its debut, the Porsche Macan is heading towards its second generation, now in an all-electric version. Featuring an innovative and timeless design, Porsche-typical performance, an extended range and great practicality in everyday use, the new Macan 4 and Macan Turbo aim to fully meet the needs of Porsche customers who choose an SUV. The electric motors draw their energy from a lithium-ion battery located in the underbody, with a gross capacity of 100 kWh, of which up to 95 kWh can be actively used. The high-voltage battery is a central component of the new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform with 800 Volt architecture, which Porsche is using for the first time in the new Macan.
Sharper proportions and Porsche Design DNA give the new Macan models a dynamic and assertive character. “With the all-electric Macan, we present the first Porsche that starts from an established product identity to take on a new, electric connotation,” says Michael Mauer, Vice President of Porsche Style. “The new Macan is clearly identifiable as a member of the Porsche product family due to its adherence to the brand identity. The classic Porsche proportions have been further elaborated and perfectly adapted to the requirements of an electric vehicle. This further enhances the car’s sporty, modern and dynamic appearance. Its styling speaks for itself: the Macan remains the sports car in its segment, even in an electric version.
The low slope of the bonnet and pronounced mudguards give the brand’s smallest SUV, which is 4,784 mm long, 1,938 mm wide and 1,622 mm high, a dynamic appearance even when stationary. The new Macan is fitted with wheels up to 22 inches with offset tyres. The wheelbase, 86 mm longer than the previous model (2,893 mm), is counterbalanced by reduced overhangs at the front and rear. The headlamps are divided into two sections: the flat upper headlamp unit with four-point daytime running lights is set into the wings and emphasises the width of the car. The main headlamp module with optional Matrix LED technology is positioned slightly lower in the front section. The characteristic Porsche flyline forms a whole with the flat rear window. Together with the frameless doors and characteristic sideblades, all these elements result in an elegant and sporty line. The well-pronounced shoulders give the rear end a muscular appearance. The Porsche logo is now located in the centre of the sculpted 3D light strip.
The Macan is equipped with a state-of-the-art display system and operating interface featuring up to three screens, including the 12.6-inch curved instrument cluster and the 10.9-inch centre screen. For the first time, even the front passenger can view information, adjust infotainment system settings or stream content while the car is on the move using its optional 10.9-inch screen. For the first time ever, the Porsche Driver Experience also includes a head-up display with Augmented Reality technology. Virtual elements, such as navigation arrows, are visually integrated into the real world virtually seamlessly. The image appears to the driver at a distance of 10 metres and corresponds to the format of an 87-inch display.
