After a long illness, Paolo Pininfarina, Chairman of the Pininfarina Group, passed away in Turin at the age of 65. The engineer had led the company since 2008 following the death of his brother Andrea. Among the masterpieces he personally held dear, two were particularly close to his heart: the Sergio concept car, a two-seater barchetta based on Ferrari mechanicals, which Paolo Pininfarina decided to build in 2013 in memory of his father Sergio, and the Automobili Pininfarina Battista, an electric hypercar named after his grandfather and which he himself will unveil at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
Born in Turin on 28 August 1958, Paolo Pininfarina graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Turin Polytechnic. After a series of training and professional experiences abroad including at Cadillac, Honda and General Motors in 1982 he began his career at Pininfarina and in 1987 became Chairman and CEO of Pininfarina Extra s.r.l., a Group company specialising in industrial design, furnishings, architecture, nautical and aeronautical engineering. “I express my deep sorrow and grief at the loss of our dear Chairman,” says Pininfarina CEO Silvio Angori. “We are all extremely grateful to Mr Pininfarina for his extraordinary contribution to the Company and for having always worked passionately, in the first person, to safeguard our history and our corporate identity both in terms of style and ethical and behavioural choices.
