Smart has unveiled the #5, a mid-size SUV that follows the brand’s new styling direction inaugurated by the team of Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer for Mercedes-Benz Group, with the #1. The smart #5 has been designed by Mercedes-Benz taking up the brand’s typical design elements such as the suspended panoramic roof, frameless doors and reduced front and rear overhangs: the smart #5 has a wheelbase of 2,900 mm and an overall length of 4,705 mm. The smart #5 features characteristic horizontal headlamp clusters at the front and rear, as well as the smart logo on the D-pillar. Premium details include two-tone mirrors and hubcaps with a floating smart logo, which is always upright even when turning.

‘The #5 is a very special project for us. It marks the beginning of a new era in smart’s commitment to premium design, pushing boundaries and maintaining our ‘open mind’ character. We remain true to our ‘Love, Pure, Unexpected’ design philosophy, elevating the ‘Pure’ concept to a sincere mid-size SUV design. The square shape and the wheels at the corners give the typical smart ‘Body Space Index’,’ said Kai Sieber, Mercedes-Benz Design, Head of smart Design.

At the centre of the smart #5’s cockpit is a modern human-machine interface (HMI) system with an intuitive design. It features a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display, a 10.3-inch full-colour Ultra HD LCD instrument cluster and two 13-inch 2.5K AMOLED displays. An advanced voice assistant based on generative artificial intelligence allows the driver to get precise answers to almost any question, using a variety of sources. Combined with smart’s intelligent avatars, the voice assistant allows drivers to control key functions solely by voice, including calls and messages, music and media, climate control, navigation, personal settings and vehicle control, as well as all internet functions.
