At the Brussels Motor Show, Renault unveils the interior of the electric Twingo E-Tech prototype, a show car that anticipates the future production vehicle that will arrive in 2026. True to the spirit of the first generation, with its spacious and functional layout, the interior revisits the iconic features of the first Twingo. The electric prototype’s airy, cylindrical, suspended dashboard is both attractive and functional: it has a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central multimedia screen. In addition to providing connectivity, these functions add a fresh and dynamic touch to the on-board experience. Next to the three climate control buttons, the red emergency light button stands out, evoking memories of the first Twingo.
Every aspect of the passenger compartment has been designed to make life easier: the streamlined layout includes easily accessible stowage spaces, with spaces under the dashboard for bags and everyday items, and a flat space under the cylinder, which runs the full width of the passenger compartment, allowing passengers to keep a book, phone or even sunglasses within easy reach. The original upholstery of the Twingo E-Tech prototype is inspired by the colourful motifs of the first generation model. It matches the colour of the exterior bodywork, with subtle touches on the front door panels and passenger-facing dashboard. The vehicle floor is made of coloured cork, a strong and durable material. The Twingo’s DNA is rooted in its ability to easily adapt to everyday needs. As proof of this, the rear bench of the electric Twingo E-Tech prototype slides and folds into two 50/50 sections, adapting to every situation.
With its rounded glass roof, the interior of the electric Twingo E-Tech prototype is bathed in natural light, providing a sense of space. The interior has been designed to be attractive, practical and intelligent in every way, creating an experience that all passengers can enjoy. For example, the front headrest has a magnetic area that allows rear passengers to attach their phones, or an elastic strap that acts as a map pocket to keep a water bottle handy. The backrest adjustment knob is inspired by skateboard wheels, in homage to the urban environment of the Twingo.
Several changes have been made in terms of functionality and design since the show car was first unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. The lower part of the front end, for example, now hides an air intake, the rear wheel arches are smaller and the black bumpers have been redesigned and honeycomb-printed with a 3D printer. Aesthetically, the front door handles no longer have an illuminated edge, a quarter light has been added near the rear-view mirror and the shape of the rear lights has been changed. These developments demonstrate Renault’s commitment to continuously refining the design and features of its vehicles during the development process.
