Cupra unveiled during an event at the Terramar circuit (Spain) part of its strategy for the future that includes new models, the proposal of electric-only cars by 2030, and a doubling of the units delivered, which it says will be 500,000 per year by 2025. “We start with three new cars that possess the Cupra DNA: strength, sportiness and also flair to target a young audience and those .looking for an unconventional product. We cannot please everyone, our audience chooses us with conviction,” says Jorge Diez, head of Cupra design.
2024 will be the year of the Tavascan, an electric suv coupe and evolution of the concept car of the same name unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. The Tavascan takes advantage of the Volkswagen Group’s Meb platform and has remained resolutely faithful to the prototype. “Tension and order flow through the Cupra Tavascan. We managed for the production car to keep many elements of the concept, some examples? The front end that looks down, the pointed rear end and the decidedly high-tech interior that differs from all other cars on the road today,” Diez continues.
The second model coming in 2024 is the Terramar, a 4.5-meter-long mid-size suv that takes up the main Cupra design cues in the front and, more importantly, the rear. The platform shared with the Audi Q3 allows it to be equipped with plug-in hybrid or thermal powertrains, while the styling is completely independent of its German cousin.
The year 2025 will see the debut of the UrbanRebel, an electric citycar built on the Meb platform. At 4.03 meters long, the small zero-emission car integrates, as Francesca Sangallo, head of Cupra’s Color&Trim department, explains, advanced recycled polymers and bio-based material to offer a more environmentally conscious vehicle. Combining 3D printing and 3D machining for fabrication with parametric design allows for improved performance and increased perception of value. An extremely lightweight design both outside and inside help the 226-hp (166 kW) electric motor and battery pack propel the car to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and achieve a range of up to 440km.
